Martha "Momfeather" Kaelbli Erickson is founder and executive director of the Mantle Rock Native Education and Cultural Center in Marion, Kentucky, in which capacity she counsels both Native Americans and non-Natives.
Momfeather is a traditional storyteller, teacher of the old ways and of Native American cooking. She has presented stories and teachings to school groups and other gatherings, both young persons and adults, in groups ranging in size from small school classes to groups of 600.
Momfeather has also been publisher, contributor and advisor to Turtle Tracks, an online newsmagazine for young people. Turtle Tracks contains news articles, nature stories, biographies, science projects, math games and puzzles as well as history and news from the Native Nations.
As an author, she has written Native American storybooks, cookbooks, and poetry and is the subject of an online book by Dreamkeepers.net. She is also a contributor to the fist Bison textbook, written for the tribal colleges.
Momfeather serves on the Boards of Directors of the All Nations Youth Group, American Indian Mothers, Ambassador of United Native America and other organizations.
She is active in civil rights issures for Native Americans, including the protection and enforcement of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act. Her other affliations include the National Native American Educational Association, the North Carolina Indian Cultural Center, the National Trail of Tears Association, the Standing Bear Foundation and the Intertribal Bison Association.
She was given the honor of Kentucky Colonel for contribution to preservation of the state's Native American heritage and culture.
